It really did take all I could muster to complete the stone screenings and the one garden area covered with chips. I estimate that there were 115 wheelbarrows full moved from place to place and about 5 tons of stone dust moved and leveled. BIG job and a lot more to do.
The best part of the day, however, was having a great visit by a Ripleyite who was looking to volunteer some time at the garden! We need to say that we do have a rather interesting approach to volunteerism at the gardens....you don't have to commit! Just show up and as long as we are on site, we will have a job to give you...it will be ongoing.
And here is the important part. You don't have to feel that your time has to be spent actually digging, hoeing or raking in the garden. We have a need for researchers who can delve into the heirloom varieties of seeds that can be grown here. We need people to help us plan events and yes, plant the garden when the time comes. All you need to do is contact us or show up at the gardens at the east end of Park Street In Ripley, Ontario!
